Can you remember when your word was your bond? When yes really meant yes? We have travelled a long way from the guarantee of a handshake!
A lack of trust in ordinary relationships has set us on coarse for a myriad of lawsuits and accusations to insure our security and survival.
Marriage is one of the greatest relationships and this also has been attacked at the very core of it's foundation. People seem to be more interested in protecting their item assets instead of sharing them!
What happened to what is mine is yours?
Where is the perfect partnership?
Does it exist?
Many partnerships breakdown at the cost benefit analysis. Will my cost be greater than my benefit? But intimacy only has it's potential in the arena of investment!
I am so glad God was not waiting on our investment before deciding on making His intimacy available to us.
Genesis 15:8-9, 12, 17 NIV
But Abram said, "Sovereign Lord, how can I know that I will gain possession of it?" So the Lord said to him, "Bring me a heifer, a goat and a ram, each three years old, along with a dove and a young pigeon." As the sun was setting, Abram fell into a deep sleep, and a thick and dreadful darkness came over him. When the sun had set and darkness had fallen, a smoking firepot with a blazing torch appeared and passed between the pieces."
Covenant is the strongest partnership there is. What is mine is yours and what is yours is mine, for life. The only way our of a covenant is by death!
This is why marriage is till death do we part.
Knowing that it is possible for us to fail, God put Abram to sleep and cut His covenant with Jesus, the flaming torch.
God cannot fail Himself and now keeps His promise to bless Abraham and all those who belong to the family of faith.
Our friendship and intimacy with God is not based on our performance but on the performance of Jesus, giving us The Perfect Partnership!
