Burnt Toast

Have you ever burnt the toast?
It produces a smoke that gets into everything and lingers for ages!
I grew up with the smell of burning toast, usually because us kids often burnt it, but mostly because my dad likes his toast well done. This has created many associations with my childhood. Even today, I am carried to the memories of fresh backed bread and burning toast because it is a pleasing aroma!

God made him who had no sin to be sin (offering) for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God. (2 Corinthians 5:21 NIV)

This speaks of 2 different offerings: the sin offering and the burnt offering. The sin offering was where you had to choose a perfect, unblemished animal, lay your hands on its head, and confess your sins over it and then slaughter it. Your sins were transferred to the animal and you were free to go - forgiven. The burnt offering was where you also had to choose a perfect, unblemished animal, lay your hands on its head, and you received the qualities (atonement) of the perfect, unblemished animal. Through one offering you are forgiven and through the other you are free to be - and Jesus performed both of these at the cross. We are to God, the pleasing aroma of Christ!

Today, and everyday, the sweet smelling aroma over your life should be just as obvious as the consuming smell of burnt toast.
