How good it would be to to boil down all the long lists of things to do to just One Thing? Of all the priorities, which is it that is most important and deserves your entire focus to keep it the One Thing?
Jesus is spending time at the home of Mary and Martha and observes something very interesting. It seems to fly in the face of normal hospitality. Martha is busy serving and making preparations, whilst Mary is relaxing and sitting with their guest. Jesus says in Luke 10:42 but few things are needed—or indeed only one. Mary has chosen what is better, and it will not be taken away from her." There is a strong move to humanitarian causes, and rightly so - we seemed to have created an imbalance. But I fear another imbalance is emerging. As we focus on the mission we have, to serve humanity, we can easily miss the one who gave us the mission - Jesus! In fact, the whole outcome of the mission is for humanity to worship Jesus. Our goal is not to do good works in themselves but to lead every person toward relationship with the One who gives life. Being aware of our humanity is secondary to being aware of Christ's divinity! We should always endeavor to minister to others from what we receive from Jesus. Our society puts so much focus on all we must do but our sense & appreciation of God's divine fullness is more important to Him than the service we render Him.
You will never serve humanity well until you learn to draw from God's divinity well. I know there are many things to do but hopefully this finds you wondering if seeking Jesus has remained your One Thing!
